Abby will continue to be a leader on the School Board, focusing on the ABC’s of school success: achievement, budget and community. While tremendous progress has been made during her time on the Board, there is opportunity to do even better for our students. Abby will continue to work with her colleagues and the community to:

Enhance student achievement by:

  • Offering instruction that is responsive to each student’s talents, interests and challenges.
Recognizing that students learn in different ways, Abby will continue to focus on individual student needs.
  • Attracting and retaining quality teachers.
  • Involving parents in their children’s education.
  • Motivating students through rigor, relationships and relevance.
Abby understands that it is important for students to fully apply themselves in academics and in their community as well. Having strong relationships with teachers will help to foster these positive behaviors. Making sure that coursework is both rigorous and relevant will better prepare students for their future and ensure that they will be successful.

Make sound budget decisions that effectively and efficiently support student achievement by:

  • Examining and prioritizing expenditures to ensure that they support student success.
  • Engaging in longer-term budget and capital planning.
Overcrowding will continue to be a challenge as Arlington’s population rises. Abby will continue to seek flexible solutions, including using school space as efficiently as possible

Serve the needs of the entire Arlington community by:

  • Increasing effective outreach to the entire Arlington community so that we truly are inclusive of our wonderfully diverse community.
Abby believes that information about APS services, programs and resources must be readily available to the community. Additionally, it is important that the School Board continue to seek community input on a variety of critical issues that inform and help shape the Board’s work and decisions.
  • Working collaboratively with County officials to ensure that Arlington Public Schools has the resources that it needs to continue to be one of the best school districts in the nation, since quality schools benefit the entire community.
  • Continuing to facilitate opportunities for our community to use school facilities so that all who live, learn, work and play in Arlington can benefit from these community resources.
